Creative Psychology

On January 5 - 6, 2002 the fourth session of the Laboratory "Creative Psychology" took place. Participants investigated the subjects of leadership and leading role in a group, responsibility and strategy of a leader and the influence of leader's personality on the group atmosphere. These topics were worked over in pairs and small groups using special exercises. The practical work included methods of contact improvisation, breathing exercises on the base of Qi Gong, relaxation. The special attention was devoted to the methods of the bodily contact. Some of the Laboratory participants have been attending the regular training of the course "Feldenkrais Method" that greatly improves the understanding of the main point of contact improvisation.

"...The biggest impression from the last seminar for me was the time when four people among the participants were leading the group. This gave us the opportunity to understand how changing leaders and the personality of a leader has an influence on the group activity, mood and capacity for work. For example, the open attitude of a leader gives the feeling of freedom, but at the same time it is important to remember that leader's work should be coordinated and competent; he or she cannot let the group drift otherwise it will become lazy. Moreover the group is able to feel it immediately if leaders have no confidence in what to do next, what reason may cause the situation when another person takes the leader's position..."

"...The most precious feeling for me is that I have overstepped the limits and that everything is possible, there are no limits at all. I have been working at the strengthening of the feeling that everything is possible if we confide and open to this. The group leader has to take the responsibility for the whole group process. I have touched upon the subjects I have to deal with in my everyday work. I have been trying to transfer the experience, feelings and attitude from the Laboratory to my everyday life and work. There is no need talking about any question, we have to act. It is funny - everybody knows that theoretically, but they are able to feel it only when it flows into you with the experience. Inside I have touched the themes of emotion and energy control. This is realizable and valuable, but I have to investigate this topic very well…"

"...I got the understanding of system between body and mind, soul. I have read that body is the sand, mind is the wind, you can look at the sand and see, where the wind blows. I emphasized the comparison of verbal and nonverbal communication. It is useful, because all our life is communication. I also found new methods and techniques, which I can use for different purpose (leading a group or anywhere). The last session was the beginning of understanding of the mechanisms of creativity - effects, obstacles and environment. This was the practical experience of being a member in the group and in-group process - it will definitely help me in leading groups as a psychologist in future. As for the group in whole I can say the same: we passed through the adaptation and started trying to listen each other, think about collaboration - so that it could be the basis for the better and more creative improvisation (as performance). Freedom needs no rules, and we have taken one step toward this freedom…"

"...It is not easy to uphold some philosopher's thought only using his or her own words. When we apply our own interpretation and explanation we feel confident convincing another person. Correspondingly, it is not easy to uphold some person's idea speaking in his or her words. It is much easier to do it expressing your own prism of opinion. We often try to convince the other person using verbal techniques - words we choose, intonation and face expression. Gestures and body movement are the unusual way of communication, that is why they were not actively used by the group at the beginning. As soon as we had tried gesticulation and body movement, we declared them to be the impressive way of persuasion. Thus we have discovered the opportunity of self-perfection..."
