 Lab

February 21 - 26, 2017

Our Body is the Wisdom...
Our Body is the Key towards understanding ourselves and to the relationship with the world. Contemporary trends have been setting the healthy body culture in the epicenter of fashion. Today people hear a lot of the importance of the body and mind connection and the role of psychosomatics for the wellbeing. The world of body-oriented psychotherapy has a great theoretical heritage and numerous practical directions...

As the body-oriented therapists:
  • How can we help our clients to gain physical and mental harmony in practice
  • What are the practical tools and techniques which we as the group leaders can apply in the most effective way?
  • How to help our clients to discover themselves and become Body Aware

WHO IS THIS PROGRAM FOR?

This intensive training has been specially designed for body-oriented therapy practitioners: dance-movement therapists, choreographers, dancers, performers, multidisciplinary artists, educators, psychologists, psychotherapists, coaches, social workers, clinical staff, or anyone interested in expanding their working arsenal in dance movement therapy.

The group members will analyze each practical session, discuss relevant professional questions and share important ideas in their field.

During many years IUGTE have gained vast methodological experience by the research of theatre and dance schools of various traditions, which IUGTE experts will be happy to share with the workshop group.

TRAINING STRUCTURE

The practical sessions develop in the form of various exercises and games based on improvisation, spatial exploration and interacting with partners. Individual, pair and group exercises develop in particular sequence from simple to more compound. Each set of exercises follows out of the previous and is connected with the subsequent one. Through the practical training participants explore how the systematized psycho-physical approach develops connection and cohesion among participants, fosters atmosphere of trust and group dynamics.  Participants become familiar, get in tune with each other, learn to listen and hear each other beyond verbal communication - through the body and the space. The system of exercises based on the approach "from the body" allows the group to reach mutual understanding and playful creative atmosphere. Each day the process involves participants into more complex developing tasks, as well as encourages more freedom in improvisation and spontaneity.

Discussion, communication, constructive feedback and exchange are essential in any creative process. In the evenings participants will share, observe and analyze their discoveries made during the practical day, ask questions, reflect on each other's ideas, express impressions, support each other's development by constructive proposals and discuss relevant topics in dance movement therapy.

This workshop offers a great opportunity to approach the world of theatre and dance in the context of therapeutic work applicable to different social groups.

The working language is English

PROGRAM LEADER

Sergei Ostrenko is a Russian director, choreographer and teacher. He has been working in professional theatre over thirty five years. His creative work is the synthesis of the Russian Theatre School and the newest experiments in performing arts. He has dedicated many years to exploration of world theatre traditions working with performers from different countries and cultures. Ostrenko method can be described as a valid combination of history pedagogy and theatrical practice. It’s a scientific approach, based on achievements in all fields of science and art. It spaces from the discoveries of K.Stanislavski, Vs.Meyerhold and M.Chekhov, to the Mechanics principles of Physics; from the theatrical experiments of J.Grotowski and E.Barba, to the educational philosophy of T.Suzuki and the martial arts experience of Taichi Chen style. Ostrenko’s method generates a “living stage”, a favorable creative atmosphere during each work’s sessions; a valid and original system to develop body, voice, speech and for personal growth. The power of the method lies in its unusual simplicity, which allows conceiving performances at any level of intensity and complexity, by installing simple modules and exercises. More details about Sergei Ostrenko…

The Lab offers a great opportunity to approach a unique methodological and practical material that will enrich your professional skills and will offer you the possibility to share an intense creative experience at a global level!

"An excellent opportunity to network with practitioners from all continents. International collaborations might be explored as a direct consequence of this experience, providing new opportunities that would not have risen otherwise".
Yolanda Aguilar, UK

I learned a lot, and a lot more deeper in sending out my thoughts and intention for each gesture and movement I would like to make. I learned my mind and words can make more specific and detailed emotions when it is used one by one, and then taken apart, and then combined back as a single focused point, only putting priority to which I wanted more. I am very happy, and wish I could afford to continue coming and learning more. I will share this with the other dancers and hope it will show them
what they need to further bring out their message that they want to tell to the audience..."
Adel Lina Yap, Malaysia

"Perfect organization and timing. The macro structure of the organization allows the perfect understanding of the concepts exposed during classes. Also the geographical place allows that your attention is only focused on the work. For me it is a model to follow in my everyday training and which i will try to do. Beautiful people in all the sense of the word".
Santiago Parada, Columbia

"This was a very particular experience for me.
I made the conclusion that in dance any choreography there should be text sounding inside of us. Only this way the movement gains meaning and sense; the dance gains fullness only if there is inner text sounding inside the performer. There should be action going on inside of us. This is both a very simple and complicated important essence..."
Alisa Kosheleva, Latvia

"I found it to be such a rewarding and enriching experience in terms of what I took away from those ten days not only as inspiring artist, but also as a student who can use much of what I learned in application with my studies while I finish my degree."
Onika Henry, Canada

"I learned so much and had the opportunity to link with so many artists on a global level".
Enda Moran, Ireland

"Each program I have attended with IUGTE leaves me with a renewed sense of my creative capabilities and an inspiration to continue my artistic pursuits. I am so grateful and excited to continue our collaboration. Thank you from the bottom of my heart."
Alayha McNamara, USA

"I appreciate the process of the whole workshop, which was strictly planned and complex. We went through it step by step. I am very lucky to have so wonderful chance to know such beautiful and interesting people from all over a world. After a few days we all had that feeling that we know each other for a long time..."
Ilona Gumowska, Poland

"I was thrilled by the way in which I encountered each member of the group in the flow of the exercises and how I found myself excited by the special connection I made with certain participants...I have made lasting friendships and potential future creative partnerships that have been earthed in unforced encounters on the workshop floor in a flow controlled by an expert helmsman.
David Calvert, UK

"From working mostly only in my own country, I have now stepped out of my comfort zone and familiar mental boundaries, and I am now able to see myself in the context of the global theater community. Indeed, this experience is one of the greatest rewards in my life...If I had not decided to come, I cannot imagine how many years it would have taken me to witness such things and to have already so many connections with theater artists around the world".
Sasapin Siriwanij, Thailand

"The structure of the workshop is excellent. The morning warm-up is consistent, the afternoon sessions are demanding and exhilarating and the evening
discussions are enlightening and informative. I would highly recommend this workshop to any artist interested in learning about Meyerhold’s Biomechanics, ensemble
building, directing, physical scoring and vocal scoring in the rehearsal process and how to implement it in rehearsal"
Laura Ricard, USA

"I think that the structure itself of the workshop+conference let us create that atmosphere of friendship, inspiration, listening and trust, which allowed us to live a perfect mix of artistic sharing, personal contact and, above all, laughter. Smiles in our eyes made our energy travellin’ from one to the other to the air around us. It was wonderful and funny to live with people from all over the world and to find out how beautiful are our diversities and similarities, because, no matter where we come from or which our background is, we all are humans and we all are artists."
Marta Keller, Italy
