Directing is both art and science. Art - because it is impossible to learn most of the necessary director’s skills even reading the cleverest books. Directing is like game of billiards or tennis, it requires practice. However it is science as well. We have to deal with enormous and constantly changing knowledge and database about directing process and methods of improving work effectiveness in a theatre company, creative group or organization, which can be mastered with help of books. Thus a director needs to have both formal education and practical experience; he has to be able to unite science and art.

TORMENTS OF DIRECTOR’S CREATION

Main difficulty directors are confronted in creative process with actors is first of all incomprehension of director’s ideas by the actors, and as a consequence the lack of mutual understanding and frustration “what does the director want me to do...?”

Director’s essential problem consists in his insufficient skill of setting actors tasks competently and grammatically intelligibly.
However actors have right to figure on exact and clear instructions from director’s part, don’t they?

If director wishes to save precious time he has to be prepared by the time rehearsals begin. The preparation includes two phases:

1. WHAT you are going to put on the stage
2. HOW you are going to put on the stage

Just four - six weeks of rehearsals before you!

INDIVIDUAL COACHING PROCESS

The collaboration process of coach and trainee is passing in regular communication through the Internet (email). Relying on tasks and questions of the coach the trainee is free to send his reflections and thoughts at any time. The clear and consecutive structure of collaboration process helps to establish the common working language, focusing the trainee on the most important tasks and assisting in goal achievement in a maximum effective way.
