”Scythian’s Narrow Look”

in collaboration with
International University Global Theatre Experience (IUGTE) under the direction of Sergey Ostrenko (Riga, Latvia)

The program is inviting professional actors, directors, dancers, choreographers, students of theatre departments, theatre managers, artists and journalists.

About the program

       The programme was created on the basis of the special project of the theatre “School of Dramatic Art”, of the same name, carried out in the framework of the 3rd World Theatre Olympiad in Moscow in 2001. 
       The “Scythian’s Narrow Look” signifies the travel to the origins of the human spiritual activity, the appeal to the mythological background of the theatre, the underlying religious and ritual traditions; it offers to consider the depth of interdependence between the theatre and the myth, the recent contemporary findings and methodology of direction, which are aimed at the revelation of this intercommunication.
 
     The program includes the following directions: the phenomenon of the sacred theatre, mystery, religious ritual, folklore ceremonial traditions; the practice of contemporary laboratory search and experiments in comprehension of mythological and ritual nature of theatre action; the boundary events of the theatre in the field of musical performance, folklore theatre and musical drama; performances and projects, associating the modern spectator to the lost experience of mythological thinking and realizing that at the territory of high society dramatic art. 
       The program is the endeavour to see the depth of connection between the theatre and the myth and to discover the energies of contemporary theatre to reveal this intercommunication.

Events of the program

-    "Improvisation and Spontaneity in Performing Arts" - practical seminar under guidance of Sergey Ostrenko.

-    Lectures by Anatoly Vasiliev "Method as Practice" and video demonstration of performances with comments ("Amphitryon", "Guilty without Guilt", "Uncle's Dream", "Demons").

-    Open rehearsal of the performance "From Onegin's Journey" (author: A.S.Pushkin; music by P.I. Tchaikovsky; direction by A.Vasiliev).

-    Performance “Goya's Guests from the Darkness”. This is an experimental show, performed by the students of the Japanese choreographer Min Tanaka. The performance is based on the Goya’s etchings. Min Tanaka will also present his solo performance.

-    Meeting with Min Tanaka.

-    Lecture "Contemporary Moscow Theatre".

-    Two exhibitions of the Uzbek art gallery “Round Loaf”.
The first exhibition will present arts and crafts; the guests will see the unique collection of Uzbek craftsmen: textile, embroidery, ceramics, and installations. The second exhibition will present the works of Uzbek painters and photo-exhibition of Frederic Bressan (France), dedicated to Uzbekistan. The project will include acquaintance with musical, vocal and dance culture of Uzbekistan. The director and author of the project - Nataliya Musina. N.Musina has wide experience in organization of national Uzbek exhibition projects in different countries: USA, France, Germany and Great Britain. She will present the lecture on applied and fine art of Uzbekistan.

-   Lectures by the leading specialists in the field of theatre and culture: Natalya Yermakova (Kiev, Ukraine) "Archaism and Avant-guard as the determining qualities of Ukrainian Theatre Culture of the New Time".
