International Festival THEATRE METHODS 05 Between Tradition and Contemporaneity
July 11-17, 2005 Malpils, Latvia
A word of welcome from the Artistic Director Sergey Ostrenko
"Dear Friends! Welcome to the International Festival THEATRE METHODS 05 Between Tradition & Contemporaneity! We believe that Tradition is the Bridge to the Authenticity in the Art of Life and the Art on the Stage. The word "tradition" comes from the Latin 'traditio', meaning "a handing down". Whenever somebody learns something from someone, tradition occurs. The object of our meeting is to share theatre experience, exchange with methods of professional work and creative tools. In the framework of the festival we have been directing our efforts towards the investigation of how traditional forms of performance can mould contemporary performing arts and how the tradition heritage can contribute to the development of contemporary methodology of performing arts. Tradition is what allows the interconnection of efforts of the contemporary and people belonging to different generations, spontaneous collaboration and mutual understanding of people who have never met and will never meet each other. We can apply to this precious source in our search for creative inspiration and perfection which had been once achieved by our predecessors. Even a genius does not come to the empty place; he relies on the shoulders of the previous generations and their achievements. Even if this bridge is ruined one has the choice – to tumble down or learn to fly…"
