THEATRE METHODS 05
Between Tradition and Contemporaneity

Yasmine Beverly Rana (USA)

Lecture and demonstration of methods
applied in interacting with populations affected by war

"My goal is that my plays take people outside of their familiarity and into the worlds of people such as survivors of war, survivors of domestic abuse, survivors of rape, the displaced, the nameless, those we see on the news, give a sympathetic sigh to, and then turn the channel to something happier. My mission is that we learn to value the human being, and realize that each nameless face experiencing a conflict, whether that conflict be internal or external, has a story to tell and should have an audience ready to listen to it".

Yasmine Beverly Rana is a Drama Therapist, a Playwright, an Educator and Curriculum Developer with International Relief Experiences, a Teacher of English as a second language, English Literature, Writing, Speech and Communication.

Yasmine's presentation during THEATRE METHODS 05 will include a three minute monologue from "Returning", her play inspired by her experience as a drama therapist in Sarajevo. "Returning" focuses on a couple attempting to return to their relationship after the war. Following the monologue would be a lecture/demonstration of methods applied in interacting with populations affected by war.
