 INTERNATIONAL DIRECTOR'S LABORATORY
under the guidance of Sergey Ostrenko
Director from Meeting the Actors till the Premiere
January 23-27, 2006 Kiev, Ukraine
The Director's Laboratory is the excellent opportunity to get the new creative inspiration during the practical work with colleagues from different countries and to find interesting ideas valuable both for the daily work with the group and the realization of the greatest projects on the stage.
The group worked on the basis of the methods developed as a result of the long-term research carried out by Sergey Ostrenko together with the members of IUGTE Creative Laboratory.
The research was developed by the team of professional directors, actors, dancers, choreographers and psychologists with specialization in performing arts and creativity.
The method of Sergey Ostrenko was elaborated under the influence of various exercises and techniques of traditional and contemporary theatre training (Feldenkrais, Alexander, Laban, Pilates, Contact and Structural Improvisation, Kinetic Environment, Butoh, Tadashi Suzuki, Eugenio Barba, etc.).
The Laboratory program included intensive practical training, theoretical discussions and lectures
The process of practical training developed in the form of various games, dynamic and kinetic exercises. The training passed in close contact and open atmosphere creating opportunity for improvisation and free cooperation of participants in the group.
During the lectures and discussions participants elaborately analysed ways of competent development of the directing process on the path to the premiere, main phases of work, creative interaction of a director with actors, director's tools, complex situations and other significant peculiarities of the production process etc.
The Laboratory experience is particularly valuable and will help to answer various topical questions of stage artists interested in methods of contemporary directing and major aspects of successful production.
