Pamela Gay Woods

(Short biography)

After obtaining a teaching degree, Pam trained as a professional dancer at the London School of Contemporary Dance. She has extensive experience as a teacher, performer and choreographer.
As the first dance animateur for Peterborough, she taught dance and movement to people of all ages and abilities in a variety of contexts, founded and directed youth and adult community dance groups, and collaborated on a variety of professional performance projects with musicians and visual artists. In 1985 she won an award for performing her own solo choreography 'X=X', which enabled her to commission Viola Farber (founder member of Merce Cunningham Dance Company) to create a piece for her.
Pam was lecturer in charge of dance at Oxford College of Further Education for ten years during which time she continued to perform both as a soloist and with a range of project groups whenever possible.
She began to explore the potential of her voice in performance whilst studying for a Masters degree in Theatre Practice at the University of Exeter. Currently she is researching towards a Ph.D. in Performance Practice at Exeter and teaches dance, movement, and performer training part-time at universities and colleges in the region. Her practice involves performing movement and vocal improvisations in response to a range of sites/landscapes of structural and acoustic interest.
