PRACTICAL TRAINING
“Improvisation & Spontaneity in Performing Arts"

Part I. Methods of theatre training

Potential body possibilities.
Relaxation and awareness of the body through movement.
Practical investigation of spontaneity.
Awareness and spontaneity in movement.
Psychological gesture.
Transition from individual improvisation to spontaneous collective interaction.

The process of practical training develops in the form of various games, dynamic and kinetic exercises which progress from simple to complex. The first steps of the group in the new room, new unfamiliar faces of people from different countries, curiosity, the energy of the beginning… The journey starts from simple walking around the room to engagement with the space and with partners in progressively more complex encounters. Throughout the process participants focus on release of tension, development of trust, various ways of contact, physical agility, spontaneity, impulse and responding in the body. So the meeting with our own body is beginning… From simple eye contact participants smoothly go on to complete trust of each other for body weight, direction and balance. Gradually the group is moving on in cohesive way. Partnering is a major focus of the training. Participants have to be able to work with a wide range of other participants. The consecutive development of contact and bodily communication allows participants to build subtle but vital understanding. Gradually participants heighten their ability to give and receive impulses. Instead of giving and receiving language, words, the training process focuses the group on contact. Sometimes it is with a touch and sometimes with eye contact. It is immediate and true. It is like a stone thrown into the mirror-like surface of the lake and the ripples appearing in the water. The lake is untroubled and not expecting the stone to fall; it is reacting at the same moment, not earlier, later…
